This excellent show is a prime example of why, after being a friend of tapers for 20+ years, I started recording shows.
The gig was a benefit for Kate Struby and ALS charities. Check out the information below and help out if you can.
ALS Association Evergreen Chapter
To join Kate and her crew (and lots of other folks) for the ALS Walk at Seward Park on Saturday, October 1st, or to donate directly to the ALS Association Evergreen Chapter: http://web.alsa.org/site/TR/Walks/EvergreenWalk?px=2193390&pg=personal&fr_id=7407
ALS Therapy Development Institute (ALS TDI)
Built by and for patients, the Institute is the world's largest ALS research center and the only nonprofit biotechnology company with more than 30 professional scientists focused on a single disease indication.
Muscular Dystrophy Association/ALS Division
MDA is the world's largest non-governmental sponsor of research seeking the causes of and effective treatments for neuromuscular diseases, sponsoring 330 research projects annually.
ALS Guardian Angels
Most ALS related organizations are dedicated to finding a cure. Until then, ALS patients need help living. The ALS Guardian Angels Foundation is dedicated to helping patients and their families live with ALS while maintaining the best quality of life possible.
Rock Out ALS
Rock Out ALS first started as “Smoke Out ALS” just outside of Seattle WA, September of 2008. Smoke Out ALS was a BBQ for 500 with five musical acts. It was rained out and only 75 people showed, but the bands played on. In September of 2009, they eliminated the "weather" from the equation by booking a 12 hour show called Rock Out ALS at Club Motor in Seattle's SODO District. It was only to be a one time thing, but it was there they realized that Rock Out ALS could be more than just a show, but a Campaign and Organization which holds multiple shows a year to unite the music community behind ALS Awareness. In 2010, Rock Out ALS held a total of 8 events in the greater Seattle Area: 6 club shows including 3 in May called the ALS Awareness Month Series and the “Rock N Roll Car Wash” where Bands And Fans volunteered to wash cars for a minimum donation while youth rock bands played to entertain the patrons. Soon Rock Out ALS will be expanding into 11 new cities, bringing it's model of 4 - 8 shows/events a year that raise awareness of Lou Gehrig's Disease among the general public.
